[1]Elected.
[2]"Petersburg, April 29...Extract of a letter from Brunswick dated April 27...'The election in this district is over, Col. Cailbourne got a majority of voices, but not of legal voices. The state of the polls is as follows...Col. Claiborne has therefore a majority of 47. Of the 462 votes which Col. Claiborne got in this county, 43 were given by men living in Mecklenburg, who might have voted in that county, and who, although they may not have voted there, had no right to vote here. But independently of this consideration Dr. Field is in possession of an immense majority, if the polls were purged; and it is hoped for the honor of our district, that they will be purged."
