[2]"In consequence of the death of the Hon. Daniel Bigelow, a Senator from Worcester, the two houses, agreeably to previous assignment, met for the purpose of supplying the vacancy. Samuel Jones, Esq. who had 3225 votes and Pliny Merrick, Esq. who had 3163 votes, were the constitutional candidates.
