[7]"From another corresponent, Buffalo, May 2. 'The late elections in this county has eventuated in favor of Tompkins, by a majority of more than 300. What Chatuaugue has done, we have yet to learn. Had none but 'legal' voters been admitted to vote for Governor, by the Inspectors of election, Tompkins would not have led Van Rensselaer more than 50 votes. Besides every dishonest and illegal method of getting in their votes, the 'Republican party' (as they are called) made use of means the most indecent, and shocking to any civilized being, to further the success of their candidates.'
