[9]One unnamed source lists 3326 votes for James Monroe and 593 votes for Rufus King.
[10]"At the election for electors of President and Vice-President of the United States, held on Friday last, the freemen of this township polled but TWENTY-FOUR VOTES; where, had there been a choice between caucus electors, and electors of another descripton, EIGHT OR NINE HUNDRED VOTES would have been given: and these twenty-four votes were obtained only though the greatest exertions. A circumstance so highly honorable to the republican character of our township, we have thought it worthy to be recorded, and have accordingly recorded it in CAPITALS." The Western Spy (Cincinnati, OH). November 8, 1816.
[11]"We are sorry to observe that only FORTY-TWO votes were given in this township, and but very few in the county. This inattention to the selection of electors is not confined within the limits of our County, but appears to have extended through the state. 'In Ross County,' says the Scioto Gazette, 'but few votes were given: several townships did not vote at all; and others gave only a trifling vote. The whole amount of votes given does not perhaps exceed 300.'" American Friend (Marietta, OH). November 15, 1816.
