[7]The Intelligencer, and Weekly Advertiser (Lancaster, PA) from Ocyober 12 listed James Galt as James Gault.
[8]Concerning the vote total for James Gal, the October 19, 1811 issue of the Intelligencer and the October 11, 1811 issue of the Lancaster Journal (Lancaster, PA), both have the returns for Lancaster county by townships and the vote in both newspapers for James Galt adds up to 1,939. The totals in the Journal simply forgot to add the 8 votes for Galt from Colerain township, thus giving him a result of 1,931. So 1,939 is the correct figure for James Galt.
[9]The True American from October 15 lists John Whiteside with 2280 votes.
[10]The United States Gazette from October 16 lists John Whiteside with 2230 votes.
[11]Vote totals in Lancaster Borough are consistent among sources, but individual ward and township totals are only listed in the Lancaster Journal (Lancaster, PA) from October 11, and are assumed to be incomplete because the totals are less than most published sources. The ward and township totals are listed here.
[12]The Intelligencer, and Weekly Advertiser (Lancaster, PA) from October 19 attributes these votes to a populated place called Erb's.
