[2]"Monday, October 21. At 11 o'clock this day, the clerk called the house to order, when about 85 members appeared, were qualified and took their seats. The clerk then announced a quorum and informed the house that the election of speaker was the first thing in order. Gen. Smith of Rockcastle nominated Mr. R. C. Anderson, Mr. Baker nominated Mr. Dabney C. Cosby, Mr. Shannon nominated Mr. John Rowan. The clerk then proceeded to a call of the hosue when the vote stood thus ...Whereupon Mr. R.C. [3]"In the house of representatives, Messrs. R.C. Anderson, John Rowan (both formerly prominent members of Congress) and D. C.
