[3]The regular election for sheriff was held in early October 1797 along with the annual voting for Assembly/Delegates. John Welsh was elected Sheriff in the October 1797 regular election. On October 25, 1797 for some reason the Governor and Council issued a writ of election for two Sheriffs for Anne Arundel County. John Welsh was again elected, as was Nicholas Watkins.
