[1]"At the late Town Meeting in this town for the choice of Representatives, the votes (as I am informed, for I did not attend the meeting) were as follows, viz: for Mr. Porterfield 151, Mr. Sparrow 148, Mr. Hobbs 145, Mr. Morrell 116, Gen. Merrill 110, these added make 670, divided by five make 134 voters. In addition to the foregoing, there were .... These added amount to 209, and, as only one name was borne on one ticket that is the number of voters and therefore add 209 to 134 and the whole number is 343; necessary to make a choice 172, and as no person had that number, can any one be chosen? ....
