[1]Elected.
[2]The votes of Montgomery County were rejected as the Sheriff of that county failed to attend when the counting of the votes took place. As a result of this, Robert Cochran was declared to be elected.
[3]Allen Gilchrist ran an advertisement in the North Carolina State Gazette declaring that he if elected he would vote for Thomas Jefferson, and though a federalist, "I declare that party spirit has always been repugnant to my feelings, and that the administration of Mr. Jefferson in general has been satisfactory to me."
