Notes:
[1]Elected.
[2]"The Federalists and Quids were unable to reach any agreement. In a Constitutionalist caucus at Lancaster on January 29, 1808, the Quids proposed Joseph Heister and John Spayd as candidates for Governor. The former's name was later withdrawn; and they united behind Spayd, who was Hiester's son-in-law and president judge of the judicial district which included Berks County. The Federalists for the most part backed James Ross, their candidate in 1799 and 1802 . . . Ross's nomination ended any possibilities of a compromise among the Constitutionalists in the legislature. The Federalists and Quids met twice in March, but it was to no avail. The Quids refused the Federalist proposal for a nominating convention, and the latter walked out of the caucus rather than be bound by the nomination of Spayd. The Quids then adjourned their meeting to March 23, 1808, when they made formal announcement of their nominees. They included Spayd as candidate for Governor." Higginbotham, Sanford W.
