[4]"Jacob Dechart, Archibald Bard, and James Smith, democrats, are elected to the assembly, by a unanimous vote of 854 votes, no other candidates running against them. But in order to show the complete apathy into which the citizens of this state are plunged, it may be necessary to state, that last year Franklin county polled 3318 votes...which shows that upwards of 2464 voters in that county are so completely disgusted with the 'powers that be' that they refuse to exercise their privileges as freemen."
