Notes:

[1]Elected.
[2]Elected.
[3]"Of Dutchess."
[4]"The Election, in this State, opens to-day, and under circumstances never before witnessed since the people divided into two great political parties. There is but one candidate for the first office, and in most of the counties, the strife for members of the Legislature is confined to the present ruling party. It is not probable that many of the federalists will go to the polls, except in counties and districts where federal candidates are nominated. --This course is believed to be dictated by sound policy--It is not, as Mr. Coleman would infer, that 'federalism is abadndoned in the Western District'--but that opposition, after what we have experienced, is considered worse than useless--serving only to draw out and consolidate the whole force of democracy, which otherwise would, from its inconsistency, divide and fall to pieces." Ontario Repository (Canandaigua, NY). April 29, 1817.
[5]Lemuel Clift was a candidate for U.S. House of Representatives.
[6]The New York Columbian lists 217 votes for Stephen Barnum.
[7]The Official State Wide Canvass as given in The Albany Register (Albany, NY), June 10 and 13, lists 647 votes for Jonathan Dayton in Suffolk county, though the town votes given add up to 687 votes.
[8]The New York Columbian lists 617 votes for Stephen Barnum.
[9]The Recorder lists 117 votes each for Jonathan Dayton and Stephen Barnum.
[10]Jonathan Dayton received 1 vote as Jonathan Daton.
