Notes:

[1]Elected.
[2]James Fisk resigned his seat as U.S. Senator on January 8, 1818. That news was not announced in Vermont until early February. Since the legislature was not in session, and Congress would adjourn in April, the seat was not filled until after the September state election. William A. Palmer, a state Supreme Court Justice, was elected by the newly convened legislature on October 20, 1818, to serve out Fisk's term and, in a separate election, to serve as U.S. Senator in the subsequent six year term.
[3]The Rutland Vermont Herald (Rutland, VT): "The anti-caucus or steam-boat party, are said to have given their undivided support for Mr. Chase. This, of course, exhibits their strength in the legislature."
