[1]"John Cole, the federal candidate for the sheriff-atty, was elected by a majority of 540 votes over Thomas Barber, the democratic candidate, who only got 161 votes in the county, notwithstanding the insidious attempts which were made by the democrats to produce a schism in the federal ranks."
