At eleven o'clock this day, the speaker and other members of senate appeared in this house, and proceeded to ballot for a senator to represent this state in the senate of the United States - General Daniel Smith and Joseph Anderson being in nomination, both houses proceeded to ballot;... Therefore it is resolved that this house will proceed on tomorrow, at eleven o'clock, to ballot." Journal of the Tennessee House of Representatives, 1803. 15-17.
