[6]"To The Editor. Frankfort, Nov. 10th The polls for Presidential Electors, in this county give 414 votes for Clay and 120 for Jackson. On Monday several members of the Legislature applied to vote, but the judges of the election were of opinion that the law required them to vote in their respective counties. Those members therefore proposed to amend the law. Accordingly, on Wednesday morning a bill for the purpose passed the Senate, was sent to the lower house, passed there and received the Governors' signature before 12 o'clock; when about 60 members, in a body, marched to the polls- three only voted for Jackson. I believe there never was a legislative body more unanimous on any subject. This being the first day after the recess many members were absent." Kentucky Reporter (Lexington, KY).
[7]There was a big mistake made in all of the returns published for this district except for those lists in the Cincinnati Advertiser December 29, 1824.
[8]Franklin and Owen Counties voted together in the State Elections for Legislature and Congress, and all of the newspapers except the Cincinnati Advertiser, counted the votes for Owen County twice, once with Franklin County [its parent county] and then also by itself. The vote in Franklin county was Clay 414 and Jackson 120 [Cincinnati Advertiser December 29th and American, and Commercial Daily Advertiser (Baltimore, MD) November 23rd, November 25th and November 27th], but when the newspapers gave the returns for Franklin they also included those from Owen and most gave the return as Clay 568 and Jackson 136.
[9]The vote for Fayette County also differs slightly but the return in the Advertiser does agree with the votes given for that county in the American, and Commercial Daily Advertiser (Baltimore, MD)
[10]There were also what appear to be several typo errors in each of the various returns for this district and only those from the Kentucky Reporter November 22, 1824 add up correctly, but those results are flawed buy the double votes from Owen and a 100 vote mistake in the Jackson vote in Franklin. It appears that at some point the mistake with the returns from Franklin and Owen counties was noticed and corrected. Those new results were republished and printed by the Cincinnati Advertiser on December 29, 1824 and these are the returns that should be used. The county votes lists for Jackson [2474] add up correctly, while those listed for Clay [7281], total up as 7181. I have rechecked the Clay votes with all the other sources and could not find any mistakes that equal 100 votes so I believe the return for him as given in the Advertiser [7281] is just a type setting error and the actual vote for Clay is [7181].
