[1]Vermont law required a majority to elect for the U.S. House of Representatives. A third ballot would be held on February 7, 1797.
[2]The Official Certified Results list Matthew Lyon with 1779 votes but the county totals add up to 1874 votes.
[3]The Official Certified Vote lists Matthew Lyon with 386 votes but the town totals add up to 400.
[4]The Greenleaf's New York Journal, and Patriotic Register (New York, NY) lists Matthew Lyon with 402 votes, Samuel Hitchcock with 272 votes, Israel Smith with 18 votes and 70 scattering votes.
