[7]"An inspection of the election returns for this county shows that where the Federalists ran a ticket of their own it had an average vote of more than 1600, and in the same way the Old School candidates average about 1200. If the votes of the Federalists and Old School be put together they give an average vote of about 2800, which will be found to be the average vote which the Old School Assembly received in the county. It will be borne in mind that this year so perfect and entire was the confidence and so well understood the contract between these parties that the Federal delegates did not even form an assembly ticket for fear that certain of the Federalists would vote it, and thus endanger the success of the Old School ticket. It is thus manifest as the light of Heaven at mid-day, that the Leib ticket is elected by all the Federal votes of the county, and that without those votes it would have had little more than half as many votes as the Democratic ticket." The Democratic Press (Philadelphia, PA). October 11, 1816.
