Notes:

[1]"It is no longer to be doubted, from intelligence received from the western part of the state, but that the people of this state are about to be again compelled to submit to the misrule of democracy. The 'lovely' Tompkins is undoubtedly re-elected, and there is great reason to fear that there is a democratic majority in the Assembly. But in this general scene of political distress, it is proudly consoling to be able to state, that the citizens of Columbia County have once more done their duty - that the Federalism of this county acquires strength with every new exercise of the right of suffrage, as will appear from the following canvas of the votes for the present year--" Northern Whig (Hudson, NY). May 4, 1810.
[2]"By illegal and improper returns, 1717 votes were rejected, 1081 of which were for Tompkins, and 636 for Platt. There were 86 scattering votes, 1 of which were designed for Tompkins, 54 for Platt, and 19 for other persons." Political Barometer (Poughkeepsie, NY). June 27, 1810.
[3]Vote totals for towns sometimes vary very slightly by source (by 1 or 2 votes here or there).
[4]"We cannot forbear noticing the votes rejected on account of the illegal returns, viz. [for Daniel D. Tompkins, and Jonas Platt, respectively, by votes by town as follows:]...Flushing 71 [and] 65 / Rye 51 [and] 24 / Woodstock 33 [and] 55 / Rockland 28 [and] 5 / Champlain 37 [and] 52 / Butternuts 144 [and] 99 / Redfield 54 [and] 3 / Lysander 55 [and] 31 / Niagara county 571 [and] 312 / De Ruyter 37 [and 0]/ Total 1081 [and] 636 [votes for Daniel D. Tompkins and Jonas Platt, rejected.] Majority of 445 for Tompkins lost. Had all the good votes been legally returned, it appears that governor Tompkins' majority would have been 7055." Bunker-Hill (Herkimer, NY). May 10, 1810. The Columbian (New York, NY) of June 21 and The Albany Register (Albany, NY) of June 19 report the same total votes (1,081 and 636), but differs for towns of Rye and Woodstock with Jonas Platt listed with 34 and 35 votes in those towns.
[5]"'The Election. We did hope to be able to lay before our readers to-day, a complete statement of the votes given in this county at the late election; but as two or three towns are not officially returned, we must omit it till next week. According to the returns made, and what we have heard, the democratic assembly ticket is elected by a majority of about 400; and the democratic candidates for governor and senators have a majority of 8 or 10.....We hope to be able to give our friends better news next week.' From the above we may see the result of federal predictions, and the credit due to federal newspapers." The Columbian (New York, NY). May 12, 1810.
[6]The Albany Register (Albany, NY) of June 22 lists Daniel D. Tompkins with 64 votes.
[7]Daniel D. Tompkins received 1 vote as Doniel D. Topkins and 1 vote as Donnul D. Tomcens which were not included in the official results.
[8]The votes from Champlin were rejected as no office was designated.
[9]Jonas Platt received 22 votes as Jonar Platt which were not included in the official results.
[10]Daniel D. Tompkins received 1 vote as Daniel D. Timpkins which was not included in the official results.

[26]"COLUMBIA COUNTY--THE ELECTION In this county has as usual terminated in favor of federalism. The federal candidates for assembly, James Vanderpoel, Augustus Tremain, Jacob R. Van Rensselaer and Thomas P. Grosvenor have succeeded by a majority of 593--100 less than last year. In this city their majority is lessened 48. The federal candidates for congress, Robert Le Roy Livingston and Asa Fitch, have a majority of 597. The federal majority for governor is 529 for lieut. governor 558, for senator 582. The increase of federal majority for governor is attended with circumstances which we shall hereafter notice. We shall here merely mention that villainy, bribery, corruption and intrigue, have went [sic] hand in hand with federalism through the election. Every thing that wore the shape of a human being, black or white, was worth one hundred pounds, long enough, at least, to vote for Jonas Platt, [and etc.] almost every negro in this city had the honor of voting for that gentleman. The art of making voters has been practised so much by federalists, that they now think it no crime, and almost do it openly; the under strappers to the bull-dog, and the rest of the royal family, even boast of it in the public streets--to use their own words, "we are the boys that's able to make voters." But enough of this for the present. This election has proved fatal to federalism--republicanism is again triumphant. New York has followed the example of N. [sic] Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Notwithstanding the intrigue carried on by the federalists, and notwithstanding Jackson settled in the capital of our state to aid federalism in its villainy, the people have come forward in defence [sic] of their rights and liberties, and have given a large majority for Daniel D. Tomkins to be their servant, instead of electing Jonas Platt to be their master. [Bee.]" The Albany Register (Albany, NY). May 11, 1810.
