"The Republican Candidates for Council and Assembly have been elected in the counties of Essex, Morris, Sussex, Hunterdon, Monmouth, Gloucester, Salem, and Cumberland. The Federal tickets have succeeded in Bergen, Somerset, Middlesex, Burlington, and probably Cape-May. The strength of parties in the Legislature of this state this year is therefore Republicans to Federalists--tho' not so good as we expected, not so bad as it might have been."
