[3]Though it is widely believed that William Plumer cast his vote for John Quincy Adams to ensure that George Washington would remain the only unanimously elected president, this was not the case. Rather, Plumer simply felt that John Quincy Adams was more fit to be president than James Monroe, being displeased with Monroe's previous term in office.
[4]Melchior Rahm is listed as "deceased." It appears that Rahm died on October 31, 1820, the day that Pennsylvania's electors were to cast their votes.
