Notes:

[1]Elected.
[2]This election is for a U.S. Senator to replace Caesar A. Rodney, who had resigned. It had gone through five ballots in the previous legislature, in 1823, without any candidate fielding a majority and was pushed off until the next session. This election was held on January 8, 1824.
[3]The Journal of the Delaware State Senate states that Samuel H. Black was the third nominee, along with Clayton and Ridgely. When the actual votes are listed, however, Samuel H. Black apparently did not receive any votes, while William H. Wells, who was not officially nominated, received one vote.
