[11]"The election yesterday resulted, as we had every reason to expect it would, in the choice of ten democratic Representatives to the next General Court. The whole number of votes was 636. The regular Democratic ticket, to which there was no organized opposition, had 323 votes. The remainder of the votes, which may be called 'scattering', were not counted so that the majority of the successful ticket was only 6 votes." Salem Gazette (Salem, MA). May 11, 1824.
[12]"Salem Election - We learn from the editor of the Salem Gazette (Salem, MA), that at the election for representatives in that town yesterday, the whole number of votes was 636 - necessary for a choice 317, and that the following gentlemen composing the democratic ticket, had each 323 and were chosen."
