[14]"For the Troy Gazette (Troy, NY). HOSICK REGENERATED. 'The town of Hosick at the late Town Meeting has retrieved its character'--Frenchman's paper. Hosick for the first time in a number of years has the last election given a decided Federal majority; it deserves much credit for its manly and independent exertions, in estranging itself from the thraldom of French democracy, which has so long enchained it to the views and wishes of a party of aspiring demagogues, many of whom have publickly, unequivocally, and with unblushing effrontery, declared their attachment to Frenchmen, French measures, French rapacity, tyanny, and oppression." Troy Gazette (Troy, NY). May 9, 1809.
[15]"Liars should have good memories. The Tory yelpers are barking most hideously at the federalists because the Washington principles have triumphed at the late election. As is usual with arch rogues, they attribute their defeat to any thing other than the real cause. To acknowledge that the people's sentiments had changed would tend to draw off some who are still attached to them; therefore they labour hard to convince the people their defeat is owing to the unfair means used by their opponents. Among other stories circulated to make this impression, is one, that the federalists have made voters by conveying property to paupers and others, in Troy and Hosick." Troy Gazette (Troy, NY). May 23, 1809.
