[2]"The Legislature proceeded on Thursday last to the appointment (by joint ballot) of a U. States Senator, to supply the place of Mr. Reed, whose time expired on the 4th of March last. It appeared on counting the votes, that Robert Hr'y Goldsborough (Fed) had 53 votes, and Edward Lloyd had 35 votes. Mr. Goldsborough was of course elected."
