[12]The Columbian (New York, NY), Mercantile Advertiser, New-York Herald (New York, NY), New York Journal and The Public Advertiser (New York, NY) printed the same results for the Assembly returns. They list Thomas Carpenter with 5267 votes, Isaac Sebring with 5266 votes, Thomas R. Mercein with 5261 votes, Samuel Jones, Jr. with 5237 votes, James Heard with 5219 votes, John T. Irving with 3885 votes, Samuel Russell with 3831 votes, Isaac Pierson with 3832 votes, William H. Ireland with 3700 votes (although the New-York Herald (New York, NY) lists William H. Ireland with 3795 total votes) and Jacob Barker with 3788 votes (although the Mercantile Advertiser lists Jacob Barker with 3768 votes), and William Houghland with 3771 votes. However, all of these have either addition errors, and/or switch town totals listed between different candidates resulting in varied or reversed totals. The differences range from 1 to 31 votes and in the case of William H. Ireland the difference is as much as 101 votes.
[13]"The Public Advertiser this morning, speaking of the failure of the republican assembly ticket in this city, accounts for it by stating that '2000 electors remained at home.' If these 2000 are what they call Clintonians, truly they have increased wonderfully since the election. Before the election, there were said to be only 40, 50 or 100, a little contemptible band. In the election they gave 589 freehold votes. And now the Advertiser has got them up to 2000 that staid at home. What will they make them at the next attempt?" The Columbian (New York, NY). May 6, 1811.
