[1]"In the Senate the Democrats had control by the narrow margin of thirteen to twelve. On January 30, 1806, an election was held by it to choose three of the State's six directors on the board of the Bank of Pennsylvania. The Democratic candidates were Thomas Leiper, John Harrison and William Duane; but the latter failed of election because Henry Wertz, Democratic Senator from Bedford County, refused to vote for him."
