As early as the first Federal elections in 1788, there were candidates, who while alligned with one party or another, was supported in the press by both parties in a particular election.


Trustee of the Academy

An office in many Pennsylvania counties. There were local Academies which appear to have been supported by county funds and thus had trustees who were directly elected by the people.
