Vice-President of the United States: The second highest position in the United States government. Not directly elected by popular vote. These are the results of the votes in the Electoral College after the passage of the 12th Amendment in 1804. Prior to the 12th Amendment, the Vice President was whatever candidate received the second most votes for President.
