[1]"House of Representatives, Wednesday, June 15. Several bills passed to be enacted. In consequence of a message from the Hon. Senate, informing that that Body had made choice of the Hon. Benjamin Goodhue, to represent this state in the Senate of the United States.... The House took into consideration of the expediency of the measure .... and 12 o'clock assigned for coming to a choice; at which time the votes for a Senator being given in by Ballot .... Hon. Edward H. Robbins had 70 and the Hon. Benjamin Goodhue had 70 consequently there was no choice." Hampshire and Berkshire Chronicle (Springfield, MA). June 21, 1796.
