Notes:

[1]Though Thomas Chittenden had a plurality, the Vermont Constitution required a majority and the vote was then cast into the State Legislature, which voted for Moses Robinson. It was the only year that Thomas Chittenden was not Governor of Vermont from the time it became a separate State in 1777, until his death, in office, on August 25, 1797.
[2]Though often referred to as the "Republic of Vermont", the 1777 Constitution of Vermont which governed Vermont prior to its admission into the Union in 1791 refers to it as the "State of Vermont".
