[2]"The Eclipse is gone off, and John Stewart is no longer "The Man of the People." The good sense of the people has at length prevailed over the intrigues of faction. John Stewart, who pretended to represent us in Congress for some years past, after a struggle as desperate as it was important, to procure his re-election, is rejected by the people. Mr. James Kelly, a Federal Republican, is elected to represent the counties of York and Adams in Congress. A man of moderate but patriotic principles, whose talents and integrity will redeem to the District, that character and influence which it lost while represented by Mr. Stewart." James Kelly, a federalist, is elected member of congress for the district of York and Adams county, by a majority of 500 votes, over Stewart, the former democratic member and opposing candidate.
