[1]The Legislature elected in 1821, reconvened on January 9, 1822. On January 16, Josiah Quincy, the sitting House Speaker resigned, having been appointed as a Judge of the Municipal Court. A new election for House Speaker was necessary; which took place the same day Josiah Quincy resigned.
[2]"The Committee on the subject, reported, that the ballots received were 176 - of which 89 were necessary to make a choice. .... No one having a majority, three other ballots succeeded." Columbian Centinel (Boston, MA). January 19, 1822.
