[5]In Sussex County all the incumbent Republican members of the Legislature running for re-election were defeated. The Federalists, along with some Opposition Republicans, supported a mixed ticket composed of members from each party. Under this arrangement the Federalists were able to elect their candidate for Council and one Assemblyman.
[6]"The representation from Sussex and Cumberland will be divided ... In Sussex the Federal Candidate for the Council was carried in by a majority of between 900 and 1000--and the Federal Sheriff by about 360. All the old members were thrown out by about 800 votes." Trenton Federalist (Trenton, NJ). October 27, 1806.
