[4]"No. Voters, 5657. Make a choice, 2859." Governor's Council Records.
[5]"We had the inexpressable pleasure to exhibit in our last a statement of votes sufficient to enable us to announce the death of that horrible monster the Essex Gerrymander, 'conceived in sin, and brought forth in iniquity.' The votes of Haverhill however were then wanting; but having since obtained them, we now give the Gerrymander district complete. On this ocassion we cannot refrain from congratulating the friends of peace throughout this much abused district, on the success of their patriotic exertions. All have done their duty and all deserve distinguished praise. We would particularly notice the active and intelligent exertions of the Federal Gentlemen of ANDOVER. That town has been the chosen seat of Democracy in the interior of the District, and the power of wealth and the influence of office have been unsparingly exerted to continue the peace party in a minority. But truth has at length triumphed over falsehood, and our federal friends in that respectable town are entitled to a large share in the gratitude of their country." Salem Gazette (Salem, MA). April 10, 1813.
